"Neofytos" Cultural Organization invites everyone to the exhibition ‘‘Dis’’, which is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture in collaboration with the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts.
The theme of the Art Exhibition focuses on social exclusion and everything that revolves around it: isolation, loneliness, lack of communication, lack of contact, lack of action.
According to the social model, disability is the result of the way people think about it and the social importance they attach to it. According to this approach, disability is caused by specific social and political practices. The audience will have the opportunity to understand disability differently, to reflect on it, to revise their established perceptions of it and to come to terms with a contemporary social issue that is affecting much of our society.
The aim of the exhibition is contemporary artworks to develop critical thinking and raise awareness through disability. People with disabilities are restricted at home, isolated, excluded from society. Their exclusion from social interaction often leads to psychological reactions.
These restrictions are not by choice, thus enforcing a society that ignores them and abandons them. So, now that we have all experienced this confinement through the pandemic, we do not need the testimony of people with disabilities in order to be able to visualize this experience.
